The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Indomitable lions of Cameroon 3-2 in today's AFCON 2019 rounds of 16 encounter, to set up a quarter final cracker between either Egypt or South Africa.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr selected Chidozie Awaziem, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, and Ola Aina to start in defence; Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi as defensive midfielder; Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, and Moses Simon as attacking midfielder; Odion Ighalo in front as striker.
Odion Ighalo put the Super Eagles in front in the 19th minutes, after tapping in a fine assist from Kenneth Omeruo. The game became balance after the goal as the Cameroonians started putting pressure on the Eagles.
At the 41st minutes, Cameroon striker Stephane Bakoken volleyed in an equalizer to make it 1-1. The Cameroonian went in front a minute to the end of the first half, after Clinton N'Jie made it 1-2 in favour of the Cameroon.
The Super Eagles came into the second half with great enthusiasm to turn things around. Odion Ighalo levelled it 2-2 in the 63rd minutes with a fine finish, before Alex Iwobi made it 3-2 in favour of the Eagles in the 66th minutes.
The Super Eagles will now wait for the match betwwen host Egypt and South Africa, to see who their opponent will be in the quarter final.
