Odion Ighalo |
The January 2020 football transfer market which closed by 12:00am on Friday, 31st of January ended with a very surprising deal for Manchester United as they ended up signing Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo.
The Shanghai Shenhua of China striker signed a six-month loan deal with Manchester United after turning down an advance from Jose Mourinho's side Tottenham who is in search of a striker to cover for the injured Harry Kane.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made it clear he was keen to bring in a striker to provide cover in the absence of injured striker, Marcus Rashford, who is currently on the sideline after suffering a fracture in his back.
The Red Devils have taken to its official website to confirm the loan deal which does not include an option to buy him by the end of the contract.
The club wrote:
"#MUFC can confirm that Odion Ighalo will join us on loan from Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season.Welcome, Odion! Manchester United (@ManUtd) February 1, 2020."
The striker opted for United, having supported the Red Devils as a child, and will be targeting the club’s next away match, against Chelsea.
