The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday night announced that Nigeria recorded 238 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2170.
The center gave this update via its verified Twitter page, where it stated that 238 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on May 1, 2020. The result surpasses the one recorded a day before with 34 new cases, making it the highest number of confirmed cases reported so far since the index case hits the country.
The total breakdown as per the NCDC report is given thus; 92-Kano, 36-FCT, 30-Lagos, 16-Gombe, 10-Bauchi, 8-Delta, 6-Oyo, 5-Zamfara, 5-Sokoto, 4-Ondo, 4-Nasarawa, 3-Kwara, 3-Edo, 3-Ekiti, 3-Borno, 3-Yobe, 2-Adamawa, 1-Niger, 1-Imo, 1-Ebonyi, 1-Rivers, and 1-Enugu.
This will be the second time Kano State will be taking the lead ahead of Lagos State on the chart since the index case hits the country. Kano State recorded 80 cases yesterday and 92 today, while Lagos State which has the highest number of confirmed cases among states recorded 45 cases yesterday and 30 today.
According to NCDC, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria as at 11:30pm 1st May 2020 is 2170, with 351 patients discharged, and 68 death cases confirmed.
