A Federal High Court sitting in FCT Abuja on Thursday halt the trial of Dino Melaye due to failure of the prosecutor to provide liable documents against him.
The controversial Senator, who is currently representing Kogi west in the Senate was charged with attempted suicide, attempt to escape from custody and damage to police property.
According to Daily Post, during the resumed case hearing, the Police Counsel, Mr Jovi Oghojafar, told the court that they were unable to get the documents to prosecute the defendant due to some circumstance beyond their control.
Oghojafar, however, applied for an adjournment to enable the police put in more efforts to produce the required documents or certify the copies the defence counsel has, NAN reports.
The trial judge, Justice Silvanus Oriji, adjourned the case until Oct. 21 and Nov. 5 for cross examination of a principal witness.
News Agency of Nigeria reports the police alleged that Melaye committed the offence on April 24, 2018, while being conveyed by the police to Lokoja, Kogi.
