Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday morning re-arrested pro-democracy activist and convener of the RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore and his co-defendant Olawale Bakare.

Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare (aka Mandate), where re-arrested at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja, barely 12 hours after they were released from detention on the order of the court.

Armed operatives of the secret service swooped on the defendants after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned their trial till February 11.

Sowore was re-arrested following an earlier attempt by DSS operatives to arrest him inside the courtroom of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The re-arrest attempt turned rowdy inside the courtroom as Sowore’s supporters, legal team shielded him from the DSS operatives.

Though lawyers and supporters of the defendants tried to resist their arrest, over 100 armed operatives of the DSS bundled Sowore and Bakare out of the court premises in a commando style at about 10:45am.

According to Channels TV, Mr Falana in a phone conversation told said that the DSS claimed they wanted to ask Sowore a few questions but ended up detaining him and his co-defendant, Bakare.

The DSS is yet to disclose the reason for the re-arrest. He is currently being detained at the DSS office in Abuja.
