Nigerian music star, Burna Boy, who got a 2020 Grammy nomination for the Best World Music Album has lost to a Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo.
The Beninese singer-songwriter, Angelique Kidjo, was announced the winner of the Best World Music Album at the ongoing 62nd Grammy Awards, beating Burns Boy and three other nominees at the Grammy on Sunday at Los Angeles.
The Grammy Award nominees are albums containing at least 51 percent playing time of new vocal or instrumental World Music recordings.
Kidjo who is scooping the Award for the fourth time is known for her hit songs 'Agolo', 'We We', 'Adouma', 'Wombo Lombo', 'Afirika', 'Batonga' and 'Celia'.
Addressing the crowd Kidjo dedicated the Award back to Burna Boy,
She said:
"Four years ago on this stage, I was telling you that the new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm."And the time has come. This is for Burna Boy."Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way African music has been the bedrock of every music."
With his nomination, Burna Boy joins the likes of Seun Kuti, Femi Kuti, and King Sunny Ade in getting listed in that category at the Grammy Awards.
Other Nigerian Grammy nominees include Babatunde Olatunji, Wizkid, Timaya, and Kah Lo. Sikiru Adepoju won the Grammy Awards in 1991 and 2009.
