According to The Nation, Enugu State Commissioner for Health Professor Anthony Ugochukwu has passed on amidst COVID-19 panic in the country.
The renowned surgeon was said to have given up the ghost on Friday night at a top private hospital, Memphys Hospital Enugu.
MackenzieskyBlog gathered that the late Surgeon returned back from the US recently and was in perfect condition before the sudden relapse.
His demise was confirmed by a House member, Hon. Jeff Mbah who represents his constituency, Oji Constituency within the Enugu House of Assembly.
Mbah described the late Surgeon as a Genius in his field and will be a great loss to both Enugu State and Nigeria as the virus COVID-19 keeps increasing across the country. Adding that his loss is a terrible blow to the country.
“We are talking about a few renowned Professor of Surgeon who features a lot to supply in turning around our health sector. Its a terrible blow,” he said.
The prolong sickness which has been coming and going, returned severely shortly after he was appointed commissioner last year.
With the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the has been out of circulation.
His duties were being administered by the permanent secretary within the ministry of health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi.
