Gov. Ganduje |
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state, has sought the support of the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state and has pledged to provide exclusive testing centers for resident Christians.
Ganduje met with the leaders of the association at the government house in Kano on Tuesday, said that the decision was to collaborate with Christian in the fight against the spread of the ravaging virus in the state.
This decision will definitely allow free testing of Christians in the state without any sort of interference.
He said:
“The testing centre exists in Sabon Gari, such that a Christian can go to the place and test himself or go to his Church and the NCDC can follow him to test him there.”“And after the testing, if one is positive he or she can be taken to the isolation centre or he can decide to stay at home on self-isolation.”
The governor appealed to the leaders and other residents to adhere strictly to public health preventive guidance and also disclosed that about 31 churches had already been disinfected in the state as a means of preventing further spread of the disease.
Ganduje lamented on the negative impacts of the disease as it affects religious obligations, the economy, culture, as well as social gathering globally.
He said:
“It affects our religious obligations, our economy, our culture, as well as our social settings.“Though we are in Ramadhan, we cannot go to mosques to observe our prayers.“It is painful that we cannot observe our obligatory prayers in mosques, but there is nothing we can do about it."We just have to bear with it.“Shaking hands when greeting is no longer tenable, but there is nothing we can do for now; so, let’s work together.”
The state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Samuel Adeyemo, thanked the governor for disinfecting the churches and relaxing the lockdown by declaring Sundays a free day to enable Christians to go to church.
