Consider Malaria Patients As COVID-19, Until Proven Otherwise - Sanwo-Olu Orders Health Workers

Sanwo-Olu
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday gave a new directive to health workers in the state, charging them to consider any malaria-like symptoms as COVID-19 infection until proven otherwise.

Sanwo-Olu said this while addressing Lagos State Government House reporters on the administration of the second wave of COVID-19, at Lagos House, Ikeja.

He said that the thought was vital because of an increment in the number of confirmed Covid cases in Lagos State and Nigeria.

The governor said anybody with such symptoms ought to rush to a general hospital or lab to get tested free of charge.

According to him, seeking help early significantly improves the chances of survival from severe to critical cases of coronavirus infection.

He said that it was significant that Lagos State inhabitants should live and act responsibly in order to assist the government in their effort to curb the spread of the virus.

“In this second wave of the pandemic, any malaria-like symptoms should be considered as COVID-19  infection until otherwise proven.

“It is also important that we do not stigmatise or discriminate against anyone affected by this virus.

“Albeit highly contagious, the virus is not a death sentence, in most cases.

"Seeking help early significantly improves the chances of survival for severe and acute cases," he said.

Sanwo-Olu also urged the state residents to always adhere to the set COVID-19 protocols and guidelines as the state government will clamp down on any people and organisations flouting against it.

He added that all night clubs in the state remain closed until further notice.
