The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Tuesday arrested the former Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, over alleged money laundering.
Okorocha was arrested at his office in Abuja as officials of the Commission laid siege to the former Governor’s private office at Nkwerre Street in the Garki area of Abuja and picked him up shortly after he returned from a trip
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, revealed that the news was true.
“Okorocha has been arrested by our men,” he said
On why Mr. Okorocha was arrested, his media aide, Mr. Onwuemeodo, said the senator’s arrest was based on an old petition written by the Imo State Government.
“I don’t think EFCC has a new matter with Okorocha.
“Remember that after he left as governor, the (Imo) state government wrote petitions against him, the EFCC came and investigated this matter.
“The matter between Okorocha and EFCC has been pending in various courts, it is not a new matter.
“Unless they must have invited him to come and clarify one or two issues,” he added.
