Didier Drogba and Nemanja Vidic |
Former Manchester United skipper and striker, Wayne Rooney has revealed how his former teammate Nemanja Vidic used to get himself prepared whenever he was about to face former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba.
Rooney who also spoke on the reason why for United's defender, Gerard Pique left the club, revealed that Vidic would always visit the gym for two or three consecutive days in other to pump himself up before facing Didier Drogba or playing against the physical Bolton Wanderers.
"I always remember Vidic: if we were going to Bolton — and it was the same when he was about to face Didier Drogba — he would be in the gym for two or three days before, pumping himself up," Rooney said in his column for The Sunday Times.
On the reason why Gerard Pique left Manchester United back to his boyhood club Barcelona, Rooney said he was bullied out of the Premier League because he could not handle Bolton Wanderer's physicality.
He said:
"Bolton away more or less finished Gerard Pique's career at United."He was young and got bullied there and I think that's when Fergie decided that, physically, he wasn't right for the Premier League."
Bolton went on to win Manchester United 1-0 in that encounter courtesy of Nicolas Anelka late minutes strike when he took advantage of a mistimed Pique leap and Rooney believes that encounter spelled the end of Pique's career at Old Trafford.
Pique spent four years at Manchester United before he returned to Barcelona and became a key figure in a side that won La Liga and the Uefa Champions League on multiple occasions.
