National Youth Corps of Nigeria |
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday morning shut down all orientation camps nationwide over fears of the coronavirus, following the 3rd case of the virus recently announced in Lagos.
The passengers that boarded the same flight with the 3rd COVID-19 case victim that arrived in Lagos on March 13 are yet to be captured and tested. Following the fear of the virus spreading all over the country, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) decided to shut down all orientation camps in the country.
Recall that the Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) group, Professor Ishaq Akintola had earlier called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to postpone the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch A 2020 orientation camp due to the rising cases of coronavirus in the country.
The 2020 Batch A corps members began their orientation on 10th March and were expected to be in their camps for 21 days (3weeks). But according to The Nation Newspaper, the 3weeks program has been postponed nationwide to prevent the virus from spreading among the future leaders of the nation.
The coronavirus has so far killed over 7000 persons globally and three cases have been confirmed in Nigeria, although no death has been recorded in the country.
