FG Apologizes To Nigerians For Disobeying Social Distance Rules During Kyari's Burial

The presidential task force on COVID-19 has affirmed that the government has apologized for the mix-ups made during the burial ceremony of previous Chief of staff to the President, Abba Kyari on Saturday.

Secretary to the government of the federation who heads the task force, and the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Mr. Mustapha offered the statement of regret during the daily instructions on Monday. 

Conceding mistakes with respect to the Presidential Taskforce, Mustapha accused the circumstance of poor group control, guaranteeing it could never happen again as exercises have been educated.

He said: 

“The PTF will wish to acknowledge and apologise for the mistakes that were made regarding the burial of the late Chief of Staff.

“We realised that control failed, we've learned from this and that we will make sure that future events are adequately regulated and follow the task force’s protocols.

“The Gudu Cemetery had since been decontaminated, the private protective equipment discarded at the site; decontaminated being burned and discarded consistent with the NCDC guidelines.

“I’ll wish to further clarify the difficulty of COVID-19 and therefore the burial processes. Contrary to what's on social media, the body of the late Chief of Staff was properly prepared for burial, consistent with NCDC guidelines and therefore the Islamic faith.

“The bodies of persons with COVID-19, as stated clearly by the WHO guidelines except in cases of viral hemorrhagic fever and cholera, dead bodies are generally not infectious. To date, there’s no evidence of persons having become infected from exposure to the bodies of persons who had died of COVID-19.”
